Reminder: Keep Plastic Bags out of the Recycling and Organics Bin

Solana Beach's local waste hauler, EDCO, is required to conduct random audits on all residential and commercial trash, recycle, and organic routes within the City. During these route reviews, plastic bags have continued to be the most common contaminant found in the blue recycling bin and green organics bin. 

Next time you take out the trash, please remember that plastic bags (including 'compostable' bio-plastic bags) are not recyclable or compostable with our local waste hauler, and can cause damage to EDCO's sorting machines. 

If you collect your recyclable or compostable items in plastic bags, please remember to empty the contents of the bag directly into the bin and place the plastic bag into the trash. Or, collect and dispose your items in paper bags, which are acceptable in both carts. If you would like to recycle plastic bags, you may bring them to the plastic bag/thin film recycling bin at City Hall, instead!
