Community Discussion: Solana Beach Elected Officials' Additional Duties

When residents voted to insorporate as a City in 1986, they accepted responsibility for directing their future. Many decisions affecting community growth, environmental protection, transportation, neighborhood character, and public investment would now be made by people elected by and accountable to the citizens of Solana Beach. Those decisions are still influenced by county, regional, and state authorities, so our Mayor and City Councilmembers play an active leadership role in many of those organizations.

Solana Beach Mayor Lesa Heebner, Deputy Mayor Jill MacDonald and Councilmembers Kristi Becker, Jewel Edson and David Zito will participate in a panel discussion about the additional roles they play in local organizations ranging from the California League of Cities to the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and the North County Transit District (NCTD), to the Clean Energy Alliance (CEA), Regional Solid Waste Association and the Joint Powers Authorities for both the San Dieguito River Valley and San Elijo Lagoon, and more.

The event offers a rare opportunity to gain insights from Solana Beach elected officials about the purpose of each of these organizations and why they take on their extra jobs. Each Councilmember serves in at least three additional roles to represent the voices of Solana Beach residents in state, regional and county planning and policy making.
