Solana Beach Community Connections Lecture: Reimagining the Political World

No one can predict what will happen after the next presidential election. Join Solana Beach Community Connections (SBCC) and Professor David A. Lake to discover his insights on “Reimagining the World Order After Trump”. This stimulating talk will take place on Tuesday, September 8 at 6:00 PM at the La Colonia Community Center, La Colonia Park.  The Park is located at 715 Valley Avenue, Solana Beach.

The United States under President Trump has withdrawn from the liberal international order created after World War II. There is no historical precedent for the leading country to upend the world order it created. Populist pressures create a license for Trump to disrupt the international order but are not sufficient to explain the change in U.S. policy. Rather, Republicans are returning to a unilateralist, isolationist, and sovereigntist strategy that has always been part of the party but until recently had been relatively latent.
David A. Lake is an American political scientist.  He is the Distinguished Professor of the graduate division of Political Science at the University of California, San Diego.  He is known for his contributions to International Relations and International Political Economy.  He was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Science in 2006.  He has been President of the International Studies Association and the American Political Science Association.  He has published widely in international relations theory and international political economy.  He received his PhD from Cornell University in 1984.
