Native and Pollinator Plants
Chapter 4.2.7 of the City's Climate Action Plan (CAP) identifies strategies to protect Solana Beach's costal habitat. Strategy 2 aims to protect and restore native habitat and ecosystem functioning. To do this, the City is committed to increasing public knowledge, engagement and cooperation to support climate-informed restoration, supporting and exploring the possibilities of activities such as restoring habitat along roadways, managing invasive and/or problematic species, and restoring native plant communities.
In support of the CAP and the Mayors' Monarch Pledge, the City has continued to work with the SeaWeeders Garden Club, whose mission is to promote the sustainable beautification of the City of Solana Beach through social interaction, garden education, and home and civic enrichment to restore and enhance pollinator habitat throughout the City. The SeaWeeders have planted several native, pollinator plant gardens around the City: at La Colonia Community Center, on the Coastal Rail Trail, within Skyline Elementary School’s Mindful Garden, and on the east side of the Fire Station. Most recently, the Pollinator Friendly City Subcommittee of the Climate & Resiliency Commission joined forces with the SeaWeeders Garden Club, Water's Path Landscape Design/Hidden Agave, and the City's Public Works department to plant a pollinator garden in front of City Hall.
